Mrakpor Seeks Tinubu’s Support for Maize, Soybean Production

The Chief Executive Officer of Tatcha Farms Limited, Olorogun Alfred Mrakpor, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to support maize and soybean production to sustain Nigeria’s poultry industry.

Mrakpor said poultry farmers need a steady and affordable supply of maize and soybean meal, which are key ingredients in poultry feed.

In a statement on his Facebook page, he expressed concern that maize production in Northern Nigeria could be lower this year than last year.

He warned that this could lead to a shortage of maize and higher prices in 2027.

Mrakpor said the rising cost and limited availability of maize and soybean meal were already creating difficulties for poultry farmers.

He urged the Federal Government to assess the expected supply gap and consider controlled imports of maize and other essential feed ingredients if necessary.

According to him, early action could help prevent severe shortages, stabilise feed prices and reduce the risk of poultry farms closing.

Mrakpor said stronger support for the poultry sector would also help protect jobs, maintain local egg and chicken production, and contribute to food security.
