Kaduna to Build ALDDN Gains Into Livestock Development Programmes

The Kaduna State Government says it will incorporate successful interventions from the Advancing Local Dairy Development in Nigeria, ALDDN, programme into its livestock development plans.

The Director of Livestock Services in the state Ministry of Agriculture, Amwe Akos, made this known at the ALDDN state-level close-out event in Zaria.

Representing the Commissioner for Agriculture, Murtala Mohammed-Dabo, Akos said some ALDDN initiatives had already been included in the state’s proposed 2027 budget.

He said the government would continue supporting efforts to improve livestock productivity, strengthen dairy value chains and improve farmers’ livelihoods.

Akos also called for continued cooperation among government agencies, farmers, dairy processors and development partners to sustain the programme’s gains.

Managing Partner of Sahel Consulting Agriculture and Nutrition, Temi Adegoroye, said ALDDN targeted 15,000 dairy households and 120,000 beneficiaries across Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Plateau, Bauchi, Adamawa and Taraba states.

He said the programme supported dairy production, women’s empowerment, financial inclusion, farmer training and infrastructure, including solar-powered boreholes, milk collection points and milk transportation.

The Managing Director of Kaduna Ranch Development Company, Ibrahim Yusuf, said the state would also build on ALDDN through improved feed production.

He disclosed that 110 hectares of the 600-hectare Damau Grazing Reserve had been earmarked for livestock feed production.
