Morocco Unveils ₤12.8 Billion Livestock Support Programme to Boost Farmers’ Resilience

Morocco has rolled out an ambitious livestock support programme worth 12.8 billion dirhams to provide direct financial aid to farmers, ensure steady access to animal feed, and safeguard the country’s breeding stock. The initiative, announced during the Government Council session, underscores the government’s resolve to revitalise the agricultural sector in line with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, Ahmed El Bouari, said the programme forms part of a wider effort to strengthen national food security. “Under the High Guidance of His Majesty and within the framework of the national rehabilitation plan, we are initiating direct payments to livestock breeders while finalising the animal identification process,” he stated at a press briefing.

The Government Council also approved a draft decree updating quality and safety standards for edible fats and vegetable oils sold across the country. Government Spokesperson Mustapha Baitas explained that the reform seeks to align Morocco’s food regulations with international benchmarks, promoting transparency and protecting consumers.

Anchored in the provisions of Law No. 28.07 on food safety, the decree defines the criteria for edible oils and fats, stipulates labelling rules, and updates market designations to match evolving trade and consumer demands.

Together, these measures signal Morocco’s determination to modernise its agricultural system, enhance food safety, and improve the livelihoods of farming communities nationwide.
