Cobb East Africa Opens New Poultry Breeding Facility in Tanzania

Cobb East Africa has launched a new grandparent poultry breeding facility in Tanzania to strengthen poultry production across East and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Located in Naibili Village in Siha District of the Kilimanjaro Region, the facility is designed to improve access to high-quality breeding stock and reduce dependence on imported poultry genetics.

The new centre will produce grandparent birds, which are used to generate parent stock for hatcheries that supply day-old chicks to poultry farmers.

Industry stakeholders say the investment will shorten supply chains, lower logistics costs and improve the availability of breeding stock for producers across the region.

The project comes as demand for poultry products continues to increase across Africa due to population growth and rising consumption of affordable animal protein.

The facility has already created about 140 jobs, with most positions filled by Tanzanian workers who are receiving specialised training in poultry breeding, biosecurity and modern livestock production.

Officials say the investment will support Tanzania's agricultural development goals, strengthen regional poultry supply systems and improve food security across East Africa.
