Gombe State has been ranked among Nigeria's top-performing states in livestock development, placing fourth in the World Bank's Mid-Term Performance Assessment of states participating in the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project.
The assessment, conducted by the World Bank in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and other stakeholders, evaluated states based on project implementation, procurement efficiency, infrastructure delivery and achievement of development targets.
According to the report, Gombe recorded strong performance in livestock productivity, value chain development and support for livestock-dependent communities. The state was also recognised for effective project execution and expenditure documentation, positioning it for performance-based funding under the programme.
State L-PRES Coordinator, Professor Usman Bello Abubakar, said the ranking reflects Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya's investments in livestock infrastructure, animal health services and productivity improvement programmes.
He listed ongoing projects in the state to include the Agro-Livestock Development Zone, an ultramodern abattoir, an international livestock market and a dairy development programme.
Professor Abubakar thanked the World Bank, the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and other partners for their continued support, adding that the state remains committed to expanding the livestock sector and creating more economic opportunities.
The recognition comes as work continues on major livestock projects across the state, with construction of the ultramodern abattoir and other facilities progressing steadily.
