Mirth Farms Records Birth of Nigeria’s First Nelore Calf Through Embryo Transfer

Mirth Farms has announced the birth of Nigeria’s first Nelore calf produced through embryo transfer technology. The development is being described as a major step for livestock breeding and cattle production in the country.

The Nelore breed is known for its ability to survive in hot climates, resist diseases and produce quality beef. Mirth Farms said the project was introduced to improve cattle genetics that can adapt to Nigeria’s environment.

The embryo transfer procedure was carried out using selected Nelore embryos as part of efforts to improve herd quality and modernise cattle breeding in Nigeria. Experts say the technology can help farmers increase productivity without importing live animals.

Mirth Farms added that the successful birth could open new opportunities for ranchers, cattle breeders and livestock investors across Nigeria and other parts of West Africa. Stakeholders in the agriculture sector have also described the development as a boost for innovation in the country’s livestock industry.
