The Kano State Ministry of Livestock Development has started a statewide vaccination campaign against Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia. The exercise aims to curb the spread of the disease among livestock. About 1.5 million cattle are expected to be covered.
The campaign was launched in Bunkure Local Government Area. Commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, said the vaccination is important for animal health and protein supply. He was represented at the event by veterinary expert Dr. Abubakar Muhammad.
Officials said the vaccination will cover all 44 local government areas in the state. The programme is part of efforts to control contagious livestock diseases. Authorities say CBPP affects cattle productivity and can lead to death in severe cases.
Farmers and herders have been urged to present their animals for vaccination. The ministry said cooperation from livestock owners is needed to reduce the spread of the disease. Officials added that prevention will support healthy livestock production.
