Egypt has agreed to import large quantities of frozen poultry and poultry parts to increase supply and help stabilise prices ahead of Ramadan. The ministries of Supply and Agriculture and the Mostaqbal Misr Agency for Sustainable Development announced the decision on Sunday.
Initial shipments are expected before the start of Ramadan. The imports will include whole birds, thighs and breasts, to be sold at discounted prices through fixed and mobile outlets run by the three organisations across the country.
Officials said the move is part of efforts to strengthen food reserves, balance the market and support price stability during and after Ramadan. They added that coordination will continue to ensure distribution of the agreed quantities and to increase supplies of basic commodities.
