Jigawa State has invested about N3.1 billion in artificial insemination over the past two to three years to improve cattle breeds and increase milk production, Governor Umar Namadi has said.
The governor disclosed this at a gathering in Dutse, where members of the Fulani community endorsed President Bola Tinubu, Namadi and other All Progressives Congress aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Namadi said the state was also supporting livestock production through animal vaccination, grazing areas, watering stations and the cultivation of alfalfa for animal feed. He added that the government was providing livestock feed and investing in facilities and services for communities.
The governor stressed that peaceful relations between farmers and herders were necessary for stability and development in the state.
The gathering was organised under the leadership of Alhaji Shehu Hadejia at the Manpower Development Institute in Dutse.
Hadejia said the meeting recognised the state government’s efforts to maintain peaceful relations and its establishment of a Ministry of Livestock Development.
