Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Ranching, Livestock Reforms

President Bola Tinubu on Monday said he expects the National Economic Council conference to produce clear resolutions on ranching, livestock investment and agricultural diversification. He said he would play his part to ensure the reforms are delivered.

Speaking at the opening of the two-day NEC conference at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, the President linked livestock sector reform to national security. He described banditry and terrorism as economic challenges that require urgent solutions. Tinubu said he expects outcomes on dairy farming, livestock investment, ranching and diversification of agricultural production.

The President’s remarks followed his earlier directive on December 10, 2025 to Vice President Kashim Shettima and the NEC to develop a roadmap for livestock transformation through ranching to address farmer-herder conflicts. He also directed the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, to identify villages and grazing areas that could be rehabilitated into modern ranches. The NEC later inaugurated a Livestock Development Committee chaired by Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris to fast-track reforms.

At the conference, Tinubu also pledged continued support for security forces to tackle terrorism and banditry. He thanked Vice President Shettima for leading council deliberations and commended some state governors for their efforts on security. The conference, holding February 9 and 10, focuses on economic coordination, investment mobilisation and development strategies under the Renewed Hope National Development Plan.
