The Director General and Global Liaison of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, Joseph Tegbe, says the pilot phase of the 1-billion-dollar National Integrated Poultry Project is set to commence.
He said Enugu, Kaduna and Oyo states have been selected for the pilot phase, adding that the project will be expanded to other geopolitical zones next year.
Tegbe spoke on Saturday at the Chinese New Year Temple Fair and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and China. The 2026 Chinese New Year marks the Year of the Horse.
He said when completed, the project is expected to produce six million eggs daily, house more than seven million laying birds and over two million broilers, and cultivate more than 60,000 hectares of maize and soybeans.
According to him, the initiative will also provide subsidised feedstock to support existing farmers. He said the project aims to support food production, jobs and economic opportunities.
Tegbe also spoke on Nigeria-China cooperation in steel production, saying the revitalisation of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex is expected to deliver 10 million metric tonnes annually.
He said the government is working to achieve measurable progress toward industrial development.
On education and knowledge exchange, Tegbe said partnerships between Nigerian and Chinese institutions will continue through scholarships, joint research and plans for new industrial parks focused on manufacturing, technology and shared expertise.
