L-PRES Clears Livestock Service Centre Project in Bauchi

The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support, L-PRES, Project in Bauchi State has approved the construction of a large Livestock Service Centre in Galambi, with work already at an advanced stage.

The State Coordinator of L-PRES, Musa Adamu-One, disclosed this on Friday during an interview with journalists in Bauchi.

He said the facility is expected to be completed within the year, adding that construction progress is visible along the Galambi–Liman Katagum road.

Adamu-One said the L-PRES project is aimed at boosting livestock production and strengthening the livestock value chain through improved infrastructure, technology and commercial opportunities for livestock owners, traders and pastoralists.

He said the project covers dairy and meat production, as well as small ruminants such as sheep and goats.

According to him, the initiative is community-focused and designed to support sustainable livestock development.

He explained that while the project concentrated on crop and animal production interventions in 2025, the 2026 work plan will focus largely on infrastructure development.

Planned projects include grazing facilities such as water points for herders, modern abattoirs and veterinary clinics, as well as organised pasture areas with fenced land, planted grasses and water supply.

Adamu-One said the project is also supporting value addition through the provision of equipment for animal feed supplements and the use of crop residues as alternative livestock feed.

He added that L-PRES is promoting livestock breed improvement through artificial insemination, noting that a breed improvement centre and a liquid nitrogen plant for semen preservation are under construction in the state.

The coordinator said the project is aimed at improving livelihoods, meat hygiene and economic activities across Bauchi State.

He commended Governor Bala Mohammed and the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Bala Lukshi, for their support.
