Kebbi State Governor pledges continued support for fish farming


The governor of Kebbi State. Atiku Bagudu, at an event tagged, “Modern Training of Fish Farming” which held in Birnin-Kebbi on Tuesday, has assured the people of his government’s continued support of fish farming in the state.

Governor Bagudu, who was represented at the event by his deputy Alhaji Samiala Yombe, gave the opening speech at the event where he stated that arrangements to provide loans for fishermen and fish sellers have been finalized and will soon kick off. He expressed his confidence in the potential of this development to impact the economy and standard of living of the people positively.

He further reiterated the government’s support of not only crop agriculture but also the ‘economic sub-sector’ which includes fish farming and animal rearing. He cited these sectors as crucial to contributing to the state’s internally generated revenue. It was earlier reported that a sum of N1.5bn was set aside for the improvement of livestock and fisheries in the state, to encourage farmers send their products to international markets.

He heaped praises on the event, citing that such improved, modern skills will empower fish farmers even more in better ways to carry out their business and urged participants to make the best use of the training.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Alhaji Musa Magaji, commended the state government for its commitment to fish farming in the state and exploring its potentials.
