Pig farmers, Pig experts, Industry leaders and other Stakeholders gathered in Ibadan to design framework for 2019 National Pig and Feed Summit

Stakeholders in the pig industry who resides or practice in South-west Nigeria gathered to discuss, network and more importantly chart a course for the first ever National pig and Feed Summit slated for 2019. The meeting was held at the Home Science building, IAR&T, Moor Plantation, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.
 
The South-west pig stakeholders meeting initiated by AERES Practical Training Centre (ptc+) Chapter, had in attendance  the representative of all stakeholders in South-west Nigeria including Professor Adediran; Director of Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Mr. Oluseye Benson; Acting National President, Pig Farmers Association of Nigeria (PFAN), Mrs. Atinuke Akinyemi; President, Netherlands Institutions Alumni Association of Nigeria, AERES Practical Training Centre (ptc+) Chapter, Dr. Ayoola, President, Pig farmers Association (Oyo State Chapter) and his executives.  Also in attendance were pig farmers, researchers, NGO representative, pig input suppliers and industry leaders.


While delivering the opening remark, Dr. (Mrs) Oluwole, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman reiterated the need for this dialogue and informed the participants that they should appoint two or three representatives to represent them in Abuja on the 21st of November 2018, for the National stakeholders meeting where arrangements and framework would be concluded in preparation for the 2019 National Pig and Feed Summit.

Mrs. Atinuke Akinyemi; President, Netherlands Institutions Alumni Association of Nigeria, AERES Practical Training Centre (ptc+) Chapter, in her welcome address stated that the aim of the South-west pig stakeholders meeting is to aggregate challenges facing pig farmers in Nigeria and use same to draft framework and action plan towards the 2019 National Pig and Feed Summit.

During the stakeholders meeting, farmers tabled several challenges such as tsetse fly infestation, pig marketing, funding, infrastructures and so on, all of which were addressed by experts present at the meeting.

Participants were also trained by experts on the importance of feed and pig nutrition for a profitable pig business during the meeting.

The 2019 National Pig and Feed Summit is expected to be the maiden edition. The summit will discuss pricing, value chain linkages, marketing and other salient issues though information about the date and venue is yet to be concluded as at the time of filing this report.
