Nigeria’s First Online Livestock Market Launched

Livestock247.com made Nigerian history at the Sheba Event Center, Lagos on Tuesday, 6th of November, 2018 when it was launched as the very first online livestock market in the country.
This development has heaped praises on the pitchers of this innovative venture by various stakeholders who attended the launching event.

Livestock247.com according to its founders, is designed to ease the otherwise tedious burdens of trading and sourcing for healthy meat to buy. It also provides an easy platform for veterinarians, animal scientists, buyers and sellers of livestock and livestock products, delivery companies and providers of commerce services.

The chairman of the company, Amina Oyagbola described the platform as “a logistical value chain for the benefit of all stakeholders” in the livestock industry which “enables investors, owners and farmers of livestock to be readily matched with buyers and consumers of livestock anywhere in the country.”

The CEO of the company, Ibrahim Maigari having noted that Nigeria could not export beef products because of the fear of diseases’ outbreak, said that the company was put in place to cut down the spread of zoonotic diseases particularly in the beef market by ensuring that meat sold on the platform are fit and traceable.

Livestock sellers can put their products up for sale on livestock247.com and buyers can pick livestock and products based on specific preferences from any location in the country.

Mr. Maigari further the technology employed in this venture as one which is “multidimensional and will impact development within the livestock sector in creating more jobs and improving the economy.” The company has also provided a mobile application which is available for download on the Google™ Play Store and the Apple™ Store.

Biodegradable microchips are also employed for traceability and tracking of purchased products. The platform also provides online payment solutions to ‘enable competitive pricing and affordability.”

All livestock and products on livestock247.com undergo quality assessment to determine their status for consumption. This is made possible by partnering with stakeholders including the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) and the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS).
