Maiha Commends Origin Tech Group, Lagos on Livestock Development Investments

Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Maiha, has commended Origin Tech Group and the Lagos State Government for investing in commercial livestock production and adopting technology to improve the sector.

Maiha made the remarks during a working visit to Origin Tech Group Nigeria, where he inspected facilities developed through the company’s partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems.

The minister visited cattle fattening and transit facilities in Igbodu and Badagry, as well as animal feed production operations. He said the projects demonstrated how private investment and government collaboration could support organised livestock production.

He noted that the initiatives aligned with the Nigerian Livestock Growth Acceleration Strategy, which seeks to attract private sector funding, improve productivity and establish sustainable livestock value chains.

Maiha also said the projects challenged the belief that Lagos lacked sufficient land for commercial livestock farming. He pointed to fresh milk produced locally as evidence of the opportunities available in domestic livestock production.

The minister stressed that developing the industry would require more than increasing animal numbers, adding that attention must also be given to productivity, product quality and commercial value.

He said partnerships between government and private companies would be important to improving food security, creating jobs and making Nigeria’s livestock industry more competitive.

The visit was attended by Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, other state officials and representatives of Origin Tech Group and livestock industry organisations.
