MACBAN Halts Cattle Movement to Bukuru Market After Attacks

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, and other Fulani leaders in Plateau State have suspended the movement of cattle to the Kara Bukuru Livestock Market in Jos South Local Government Area.

The decision followed an attack on herders returning to Bassa from the market on Sunday. The leaders said two people were killed while eight others were injured in the incident.

MACBAN officials, Ardos, cattle owners and other stakeholders met in Jos on Monday to discuss the security situation. They agreed that cattle owners and herders should stop taking livestock to the market from October 6 to October 20, 2026.

The leaders said the temporary suspension would allow security agencies and other stakeholders to improve security around the market, investigate the attacks and introduce measures to prevent further incidents.

They called for a thorough investigation, prosecution of those responsible and better protection for traders, herders and other road users around the market and its access routes.

The Fulani leaders also urged their members to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and avoid taking the law into their own hands while investigations continue.
