MACBAN Reports Over 200,000 Cattle Rustled in Kaduna

The Kaduna State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, says more than 200,000 cattle have been stolen across the state since January 2026.

The association’s state chairman, Alhaji AbdulHamid Musa, disclosed this during a press conference in Kaduna on security challenges affecting cattle breeders.

Musa also said more than 50 MACBAN members had been killed in bandit attacks during the same period.

He listed Kachia, Chikun, Kagarko, Giwa, Igabi, Jama’a, Kaura, Sanga, Jaba, Kudan, Makarfi, Zangon-Kataf and Kauru among areas affected by cattle rustling.

According to him, the loss of livestock has caused serious financial difficulties for affected families, with some forced to leave areas where they previously carried out their businesses.

Musa called on the state government and security agencies to strengthen operations against cattle rustling, banditry and other crimes in rural areas.

He also urged authorities to improve security along livestock routes and grazing areas, while ensuring that recovered cattle are returned to their rightful owners.

On the Rijana livestock market in Kachia, Musa called for stronger controls, including proper identification and documentation of animals and verification of traders and buyers.

He said MACBAN would continue working with authorities and called for greater cooperation between farmers and pastoralists to promote peaceful coexistence in the state.
