The Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization, KALRO, and the Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience International, CABI, are working to strengthen cooperation in agricultural research, technology adoption and farmer support.
The move is expected to create opportunities to improve livestock production and animal health in Kenya.
KALRO’s Director General hosted CABI Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Daniel Elger, CABI Executive Director for Africa, Dr. Akiri Morris, and CABI Regional Director, Dr. Daniel Karanja, at the organisation’s headquarters.
The meeting focused on possible areas of joint action, including food safety, early-warning systems, artificial intelligence, digital agriculture, farmer training, youth empowerment and resource mobilisation.
The organisations also discussed ways to connect research more effectively with farmers and livestock producers.
They identified digital agriculture and AI as tools that could help farmers access timely technical information and improve the use of research-based solutions.
The partnership will also focus on training and youth development to build skills in livestock and agribusiness.
The two organisations say stronger collaboration could help turn research and innovation into practical solutions for farmers, while addressing challenges linked to animal health, productivity, climate variability and food safety.
