Enugu Boosts Livestock Services With Recruitment of Over 160 Professionals

The Enugu State Government has recruited more than 160 veterinary and paraveterinary professionals to support the revival and expansion of livestock production across the state.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Patrick Nwabueze, disclosed this on Monday during a familiarisation meeting with the newly recruited workers at the Ministry of Agriculture.

Nwabueze said the recruitment was part of Governor Peter Mbah’s plan to improve agriculture, with particular attention to livestock development and the shortage of skilled personnel in the sector.

He said the state has 17 veterinary clinics across its 17 local government areas and plans to restore their operations.

The commissioner added that technology and innovation would also be used to improve livestock productivity and services.

The State Project Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, Dr. Ifeyinwa Nnajieze, said three of the newly recruited workers would be assigned to each local government area to provide livestock-related services.

Nnajieze said the move was aimed at helping Enugu shift livestock production from subsistence farming to a more commercial system.

She urged the new employees to remain committed to their duties, stressing that the government would not tolerate indiscipline or poor performance.
