Morocco Expands Aquaculture Projects to Boost Fish Production

Morocco’s aquaculture sector has grown to 244 active projects with a combined annual production target of about 90,000 tonnes, according to the National Agency for the Development of Aquaculture (ANDA).

The agency announced this during the 27th meeting of its Board of Directors in Rabat, chaired by Secretary of State for Maritime Fisheries, Zakia Driouich. The board reviewed the agency’s activities for the 2025 financial year, assessed progress on key projects and discussed plans for further sector development.

ANDA said aquaculture is expected to strengthen the country’s blue economy, improve food security and create more jobs. Driouich said the sustainable development of marine resources remains a national priority and described aquaculture as an important part of Morocco’s fisheries strategy and efforts to increase seafood production.

The agency said expansion of hatcheries is improving the supply of aquaculture seeds, while investment in processing facilities is helping to improve product quality and increase value. It also noted that government measures to support production inputs, encourage investment and improve the business environment are strengthening the sector.

ANDA added that partnerships with international organisations, including the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, are supporting the sector through technical assistance, capacity building, innovation and investment. The board also approved the agency’s 2025 activity report and financial statements, which were certified without reservation by the external auditor.
