Promasidor Calls for Greater Investment in Local Milk Production

Promasidor Nigeria Limited has called for increased local milk production to support the growth of Nigeria’s dairy industry and reduce dependence on imported dairy products.
The company made the call during the 2026 World Milk Day celebration in Abuja, where stakeholders gathered to discuss ways to improve dairy production and strengthen the sector.

The event, organised by the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and the Commercial Dairy Ranchers Association of Nigeria, focused on supporting women dairy farmers and promoting fresh milk consumption.

Promasidor Managing Director, Francois Gillet, said the company remains committed to investing in local dairy development. He noted that the company operates the Ikun Dairy Farm in Ekiti State, which has more than 750 cattle and provides indirect employment for over 1,000 people.

Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, acknowledged the role of private sector operators in expanding the dairy industry. During the event, he unveiled the National Dairy Policy Implementation Framework aimed at improving milk production, processing capacity, milk collection systems and pasture development.

Stakeholders at the meeting agreed that stronger public-private partnerships and increased investment in local milk production are necessary to improve food security, create jobs and build a more competitive dairy industry in Nigeria.
