Jigawa State has vaccinated more than two million livestock against various diseases as part of efforts to improve animal health and increase livestock production across the state.
The Commissioner for Livestock Development, Professor Salim Abdulrahman, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the ministry's activities. He said veterinary doctors have been deployed to villages and remote communities to provide free medical treatment for livestock.
Professor Abdulrahman also announced plans to launch a mobile veterinary healthcare programme that will deliver free treatment services to livestock owners in different parts of the state.
He said the initiative supports Governor Umar Namadi's development agenda, which focuses on agricultural growth, higher livestock productivity and improved economic opportunities for residents.
The commissioner further revealed that the state has revived the Kalgwai fishing programme and plans to expand it to more communities. He added that modern fishing technologies and fodder cultivation training will be introduced to strengthen livestock and fisheries production, improve food security and support the state's economy.
