Edo Cattle Dealers Remove BOT Chairman, Secretary

The Eyean Cattle Dealers Association in Benin City, Edo State, has removed its Board of Trustees Chairman, Idris Adano, and Secretary, Awall Shafie, over allegations involving the mismanagement of N116 million.

The association elected Jidda Tahir as the new BOT chairman and Ibrahim Shariff as secretary following a trustees' meeting where five of the seven board members voted in support of the change.

The former officials were also accused of failing to address key issues affecting the association, including an outstanding debt of about N35 million owed to a company that carried out debris clearance at the market.

Responding to the decision, Adano rejected the allegations, describing the move as an attempt to create division within the association. He insisted that members had passed a vote of confidence in his leadership and urged stakeholders to disregard the removal.

However, the association's legal counsel, Ejiga Paul Enemona, said the action followed the association's constitution. He warned that the former officials would be reported to security agencies if they continued to present themselves as leaders.

The association has also applied to the Corporate Affairs Commission to formalise the leadership changes.
