The decision was announced during the 10th meeting of the Technical Committee supervising the exercise in Yaounde. The meeting reviewed progress in data collection, payment of census workers and challenges that had slowed operations.

The new funding brings the total budget for the census to 19 billion CFA francs and extends field activities until July 15, 2026.

Officials said four-point-five billion CFA francs will come from the World Bank-supported HISWACA project, while the remaining one-point-five billion CFA francs will be provided by the government.

Under the revised plan, 249 administrative areas are expected to complete data collection by June 30, while 111 areas facing delays will receive additional support until July 10.

Authorities said a nationwide mop-up exercise will take place from July 11 to July 15 to ensure full coverage.

Census workers will continue to avoid high-risk security areas. In parts of the North-West and South-West regions affected by insecurity, authorities will rely on satellite images and estimation methods to complete the data.

Officials say the census will provide updated information to support planning and investment in sectors including health, education, agriculture and infrastructure.
