The Ondo State Government says it has trained and supported 90 youths and women in modern poultry farming under its Adiye Irorun Programme.
The programme, run through the Ondo State Agribusiness Empowerment Centre, is aimed at creating jobs and supporting small-scale agribusiness. It is also part of the state government’s development agenda under Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
According to the centre’s chairman, Rotimi Wemimo Akinsola, participants are trained over a six-week period in poultry production. The government provides chicks, feed, medication, and technical support during the training.
He said 50 participants received a total of 8.5 million naira in the first phase of the programme. Another 40 participants are expected to receive over 15 million naira in the second phase, with payments scheduled for Tuesday.
Akinsola explained that trainees are selected through a screening process and receive both classroom and practical training at designated farm centres across the state’s three senatorial districts.
He added that at the end of each cycle, birds are sold, production costs are recovered by the government, and profits are shared among participants.
The Ondo North centre has completed its second cycle, while Ondo South has finished its first and begun a second. The Ondo Central centre is yet to begin its first cycle.
