Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Livestock Development says it will partner with the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Alumni Association to strengthen value addition in the livestock sector.
The plan was announced at the 27th–28th Annual Global Convention of the FUNAAB Alumni Association held on May 2, 2026, at the university’s Senate Red Chamber.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister, Special Adviser on Knowledge Management and Communication, Dr. Richard Mark Mbaram, said the ministry considers academic and professional groups important to the development of the livestock industry.
He said the partnership will support the ministry’s target to increase the sector’s contribution to the economy from 32 billion dollars to 74 billion dollars over the next ten years.
According to him, the effort will be driven by the Livestock Growth Acceleration Policy, which aims to improve productivity, strengthen value chains, and attract investment. He added that the proposed National Livestock Economic Programme is expected to improve efficiency and expand opportunities for value addition.
During the visit, the minister’s representative toured FUNAAB facilities, including livestock farms, the abattoir centre, and a solar-powered engine room. He commended the university’s work in research and sustainable agricultural practices.
The ministry says the collaboration is part of wider efforts to use institutional expertise to improve performance in the livestock sector and support economic growth.
