Animal Health and Husbandry Technologists have raised concerns over their exclusion from a recent baseline data survey released by the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.
The group, under the Nigerian Association of Animal Health and Husbandry Technologists, says its members were not included, despite the recognition of other professional categories in the report. The complaint was contained in a statement signed by the association’s South West Vice President, Prince Oyewumi Oyedele Oyetunde.
The association said the omission does not reflect the role technologists play in livestock production, disease control, public health, and extension services across the country.
It also noted that categories such as Animal Scientists, Veterinary Paraprofessionals, and Community Animal Health Workers were listed, while its members were left out. The group stressed that those categories cannot replace the role of certified Animal Health and Husbandry Technologists.
The association described the exclusion as a misrepresentation of the livestock workforce and called on the ministry to review the survey and include its members.
