Ondo Trains Over 1,000 Livestock Farmers in Modern Techniques

Ondo State has trained over 1,000 livestock farmers in modern farming techniques and record keeping to improve productivity and resilience in the sector.

The State Project Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project, Olufemi Adeogun, disclosed this on Thursday at the maiden graduation ceremony of the L-PRES Farmers’ Field School in Akure.

Adeogun said the farmers completed a six-month training programme covering three livestock value chains – poultry, goat and sheep, and pig production. He added that participants were drawn from the 18 local government areas of the state.

He explained that the training was designed to equip farmers with practical skills to improve livestock production and encourage the adoption of modern agricultural practices.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Leye Akinola, represented by the Director of Animal Husbandry Services in the ministry, Folusho Ojo, commended the farmers for their commitment and urged them to share the knowledge with other farmers in their communities.

Akinola also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working with development partners such as L-PRES to provide farmers with training, improved technologies, inputs and market opportunities.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, pig farmer Abiodun Fashoro thanked the organisers for the training and said the knowledge gained would help improve livestock production in the state.
