The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock said the ban covers live animals, animal feed, skins, hides, trophies and dairy products unless strict controls are in place. Transit of live animals from South Africa through Zambia has also been suspended. Officials said the move is a biosecurity measure.
South Africa recently declared the outbreak a national disaster. Authorities say the disease has spread across all nine provinces. Quarantine measures have been introduced in affected farming areas.
Officials described the outbreak as one of the worst recorded in the country. A task team of farmers and experts has been set up to monitor the situation. Regular reports are expected on response efforts.
