The beneficiary poultry farmers are spread across the 11 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the region. Speaking at a ceremony in Techiman, the regional capital, Dumelo said each assembly would receive and distribute 10,000 birds. He asked the assemblies to monitor the birds to ensure the nation derives optimum benefits.
He said the government would also provide about 48,833 bags of feed, 63,000 doses of antibiotics and 44,000 units of glucose to support the birds. He added that the government remains committed to reviving and boosting the poultry industry to reduce the annual importation of chicken and create employment opportunities.
Bono East Regional Minister Francis Owusu Antwi commended the ‘Nkoko Nketenkete’ initiative and expressed hope that farmers would use the support to help achieve the government’s vision for the poultry sector. He directed personnel of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to intensify monitoring and supervision.
Dumelo further stated that farmers would soon receive subsidised fertiliser, seedlings and other farm inputs under the Feed Ghana Programme, and advised beneficiaries to take good care of the birds.
