Gombe moves to boost animal health with modern veterinary hospital project

The Gombe State Government has taken a decisive step toward strengthening livestock productivity by handing over land for the construction of a modern veterinary hospital within its Agro-Livestock Development Zone. The move is expected to significantly improve animal health services and support farmers across the state as part of a broader livestock transformation drive.

The site handover, carried out at the project location, follows the approval and award of the facility under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project. Project Coordinator, Professor Usman Bello Abubakar, said the hospital will be a fully equipped, digitally driven referral centre offering advanced laboratories, diagnostic services and mobile veterinary care, with farmers able to request services remotely from anywhere in the state. Construction is expected to be completed within six months.

The facility will sit at the heart of the 184-hectare Agro-Livestock Development Zone, an area already hosting major projects such as an international livestock market and an ultra-modern abattoir. State officials say the zone is being developed into a comprehensive agro-industrial hub, with plans for additional facilities that will further strengthen the livestock value chain.

Agriculture Commissioner Dr Barnabas Malle described the zone as a strategic vision of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, designed to concentrate key agricultural and livestock infrastructure in one location. He assured farmers and stakeholders of the state government’s continued support to ensure the hospital is delivered on schedule and becomes a game-changer for animal health and livestock development in Gombe State.
