Dr Ayoola Oduntan, Group Managing Director of Amo Group, has donated a 2,000-capacity model broiler poultry pen complex to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. The facility was unveiled and commissioned during the faculty’s veterinary oath-taking and induction ceremony.
Dr Oduntan, an alumnus of the faculty, said the donation was aimed at supporting veterinary education, youth empowerment and livestock development. He said the university played a key role in shaping his career and described the project as a way of giving back to the institution.
The facility, built by Diversay Solutions Limited, an Amo Group subsidiary, includes a 2,000-bird broiler pen, an administrative office and a borehole. It also comes with an initial stock of 2,000 broiler chicks, feed supplied to market weight and an offtake arrangement to ensure the birds are purchased at maturity.
Dr Oduntan said the complex is designed to operate as a commercial poultry unit and expose veterinary students to practical poultry production and business management. He said the goal is to equip graduates with skills to generate income and contribute to livestock development.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Raymond Bako, praised the donation and said it would strengthen practical training, research and entrepreneurship in the faculty. He urged other alumni to support the university, as the faculty presented Dr Oduntan with an Award of Excellence for his contribution to veterinary education and agribusiness development.
