The programme kicked off Thursday with a visit to Milkin Barn Dairy Farm, a private facility known for modern ranching techniques. Thirty-five farmers and government officials took part, led by the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Ayobola Thomas.
Thomas said the tour is meant to teach farmers practical skills for sustainable livestock management. She urged participants to apply the lessons to boost farm efficiency and output.
Alhaji Muhammed Umar Ahmed, the state’s Director of Livestock Services, said the programme supports the Federal Government’s strategy to improve breeding, feed management, disease control, and overall livestock productivity.
Tony Jibunoh, Managing Director of Milkin Barn, encouraged farmers to embrace innovation and technology to meet Nigeria’s growing demand for protein. Farmers called the tour an eye-opener, saying it enhanced their knowledge of animal care, feeding, and breeding methods.
The training is part of wider efforts to make the livestock sector a major contributor to food security, economic growth, and job creation.
