The creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development by President Bola Tinubu is a landmark intervention set to fundamentally reshape the Northern economy, according to Mr. Nuhu Abdullahi, National Coordinator of the Public Enlightenment Movement. This strategic move, he emphasized, will play a significant role in modernizing livestock production, strengthening its entire value chain, and crucially, helping to reduce the persistent farmer-herder conflicts across the region.
Abdullahi spoke passionately during the launch of the second phase of his group's nationwide sensitization program, held in Kano. He explained that updated livestock management systems will boost productivity, fuel agribusiness growth, and expand income opportunities for countless rural families throughout the North. He hailed the President's decision, saying it will specifically reshape economic activities in Northern communities that rely heavily on the livestock sector.
Infrastructure Revolution: Connecting North and South
The second phase of the sensitization is zeroing in on recently approved national infrastructure projects, highlighting the administration’s commitment to balanced national development. Abdullahi pointed specifically to the massive 2,136km Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, a project that cuts through eight states, including Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos.
The coordinator affirmed that once completed, this monumental road will dramatically boost trade, ease travel, and deepen economic ties between Northern and Southern Nigeria. Furthermore, he extolled the ongoing construction of the 926km Sokoto–Zamfara–Zaria Road dualization and the 500km Benue 9th Mile Enugu Expressway.
These extensive projects, he noted, directly reflect the administration’s dedication to improving national connectivity, strengthening national unity, and expanding economic opportunities for millions of citizens. Abdullahi stressed that the Federal Government's continued investments across agriculture, infrastructure, and community empowerment are already successfully reviving livelihoods in rural areas, demonstrating a commitment to the equitable distribution of federal resources.
A Call for Collective Vigilance on Security
Moving beyond development, Abdullahi called on citizens to complement the government's efforts to secure the nation by providing timely and credible information to security operatives. He stressed that peace and stability demand collective vigilance, urging citizens to actively work with security agencies to strengthen the fight against insecurity in the region. The group's initiative, he concluded, reaffirms President Tinubu’s enduring commitment to the growth and prosperity of Northern Nigeria.
