Livestock Director Pushes for Smarter Feed Planning and Stronger Breeding Systems

Dr. Syed Nadeem Badar, Director of Livestock, has emphasized the urgent need for innovation and efficiency in livestock farming after carrying out detailed inspections at the Livestock Experiment Station (LES) Rakh Ghulaman and the Government Livestock Farm (GLF) Khallurkot in Bhakkar district. His focus was on transforming these farms into models of modern livestock management by strengthening feed planning, breeding systems, and the effective use of available resources.

During his visit, Dr. Badar carefully reviewed the infrastructure and assessed the use of modern machinery, fodder and grazing management, and breeding practices currently in place. He also evaluated crop rotations, land and water utilization, and the overall nutritional planning being implemented on the farms. Stressing the importance of these elements, he called on farm managers to align their strategies with modern scientific methods that can maximize productivity and efficiency.

The director gave clear directives to enhance fodder and feed planning while placing special emphasis on genetic improvement programs for livestock breeding. He insisted that every available resource—from advanced equipment to fertile land—must be used to its full potential. Alongside this, he highlighted the need to raise staff performance through better training and accountability, noting that human capacity remains a key factor in the success of government-owned farms.

Dr. Badar pointed out that improvements in farm efficiency and productivity are directly tied to meeting the growing national demand for milk and meat, which continues to rise with population growth. Beyond food security, he underlined the broader role of the livestock sector in sustaining the rural economy, creating livelihoods, and strengthening the agricultural base of the country. By boosting performance at government farms, he said, the sector can serve as an engine of growth and contribute significantly to the national economy.

He concluded that modernizing livestock practices is not just about increasing output but about ensuring long-term sustainability. With stronger breeding programs, better feed management, and smarter use of resources, government farms can serve as benchmarks for private farmers and play a critical role in building a more resilient and productive livestock industry.
