President Bola Tinubu’s administration is turning to Nigeria’s livestock sector as a powerful lever for transforming rural economies and accelerating national development, according to Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

Speaking at the Annual Blueprint Impact Series and Awards Ceremony in Abuja, Akume emphasized that the recent establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development signals more than bureaucratic restructuring—it marks a strategic move to unlock a sector brimming with untapped potential.

Nigeria’s vast livestock population has long remained underexploited, despite its capacity to generate wealth through meat, dairy, leather, and exports. Akume noted that with the right investments in infrastructure, value chains, and regional trade, livestock can become a driving force behind sustainable economic growth and job creation, especially in rural communities that need it most.

The keynote theme, “Exploring Potentials of Livestock Exports in Nigeria,” echoed the government’s push for economic diversification. Akume highlighted how livestock, once sidelined, is now poised to become a cornerstone of inclusive development.
