At the heart of the program is a five-day intensive training on broiler chicken production, launched at the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi. Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad, the Centre’s Director, described the initiative as a strategic move to tackle unemployment and economic hardship by turning job seekers into job creators.
Poultry farming, especially broiler production, was chosen for its ability to deliver quick returns—participants can expect income from their first flock in just eight weeks. This practical, results-driven approach is already generating excitement among the trainees, many of whom see it as a path to financial independence.
Dr. Muhammad revealed that this training is just the beginning, with plans already underway to extend the program across the entire Northeast. “We want to give our youth a realistic chance to thrive—not just survive—in today’s economic climate,” he said.
The initiative is being praised as more than just a training program—it’s a statement of commitment to community development. Mr. Shamsu Abdu, Head of the Mass Communication Department, emphasized the importance of such programs in building self-reliance, especially when formal employment opportunities are shrinking.
For Dr. Musa Adamu, Coordinator of the World Bank-backed L-PRES project in Bauchi, this training also plays a critical role in strengthening the livestock sector, a key part of the region’s agricultural economy. He urged participants to take full advantage of the resources and mentorship being offered.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Alhaji Sani Usman, applauded TETFund’s vision and called for greater investment in such initiatives. “This is how we build a resilient future—by equipping our youth with the tools to succeed and contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.
As the program gains momentum, it’s not just birds that are taking flight—so are the hopes and ambitions of a new generation of Bauchi entrepreneurs.
