President Bola Tinubu has named Professor Attahiru Jega, former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as his Presidential Adviser and Coordinator of Presidential Livestock Reforms.

The announcement was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, via his verified X account on Friday. This appointment is part of a broader initiative to drive meaningful changes in Nigeria’s livestock sector and promote national development.

Professor Jega, who previously served as the vice chancellor of Bayero University, co-led the Presidential Livestock Committee alongside President Tinubu. The committee put forward several key recommendations, including the establishment of a dedicated Livestock Ministry, which has since been inaugurated with a minister at the helm.

At 68, Jega brings vast experience to his new role, having been a member of the International Elections Advisory Council and serving as the pro-Chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano. With his leadership, the government aims to strengthen ongoing livestock reforms and ensure their effective implementation.
