He emphasized the importance of technical and skill development, announcing that the ministry will prioritize training and retraining of staff to align with global best practices in veterinary medicine and livestock management.

Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Chinyere Akunjobi, further reinforced the government’s commitment, pledging full support to ensure the sector becomes a robust economic driver.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, expressed optimism about the strategic direction, urging the board to implement the Federal Government’s livestock policies effectively.

As a veterinarian himself, Abdullahi highlighted the immense potential of the sector, calling for rapid changes that would attract investment, improve food security, and create employment opportunities.

With Nigeria housing 417 grazing reserves and increasing government interest, stakeholders believe that if properly harnessed, the livestock sector could generate billions in revenue, reduce reliance on meat imports, and solidify Nigeria’s status as a leading livestock-producing nation in Africa.
