Umahkihe emphasized that the primary objective of this initiative was to alleviate the adverse impacts of the 2022 flood on the agricultural community. In light of this commitment, the ministry has undertaken measures to support the affected farmers.
To facilitate the recovery process, the ministry provided essential resources to the farmers. These resources included pasture seeds to enhance the growth of superior-quality grass, as well as nutrition cakes and salt licks to promote the production of high-grade beef and milk.
This endeavor underscores the ministry's dedication to not only the farmers' well-being but also the overall enhancement of the livestock sector. Such initiatives are instrumental in fortifying the country's agricultural landscape and contributing to the attainment of sustainable food security.
"We are here to support the farmers. We want to ensure that the nation does not experience food shortage.
"The Federal Government is committed towards promoting a more sustainable and resilient food system,” he said.
Encouragingly, the permanent secretary stressed the vital importance of the farmers taking their vocation earnestly, highlighting its significance not only for food security but also for their individual economic well-being.
Adding his perspective, Mr. Hussaini Musa, Assistant Director of Livestock Services at the Kaduna State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, expressed his appreciation to the Federal Government for this generous gesture. He lauded the distribution of pasture seeds as a favorable sign, anticipating that it would effectively alleviate conflicts between livestock and crop farmers.
A recipient of the support, Mr. Balarabe Gambo, acting as the spokesperson for the farmers, conveyed their gratitude to the Federal Government. In his capacity as the Secretary of the Gadan Gaya Milk Producing Cooperative Society, Gambo highlighted the potential for significant growth in livestock production if all levels of government demonstrated a genuine concern for the challenges faced by farmers.
