"We Have Never Experienced This Before, Not Just Maize, Price of Medications Increased Drastically"- DOC Coordinator

Day Old Chicks Coordinator for The Association of Turkey & Allied Birds Farmers And Marketers, Mr Fasanya has disclosed that the effects of Covid-19 goes beyond the maize price inflation, cost of medication are also affected drastically due to its importation.

 

Fasanya made this known while receiving our correspondent stating that the price of livestock medicine has doubled compared to the price before Covid.

He added that this has forced many farmers out of business, making farmers sell off their parent stock at ridiculous prices.

 

"Despite the price of maize, the price of meds moved from 100% to about 200% which is not fair on the farmers who have invested so much. We have never experienced such increase before. The price of all ingredients has gone up and we are selling at higher prices as well which is not our fault." He said.

 

He furthered stated that the hike in price will subside as soon as the economy get rid of the effect of Covid-19 pandemic.

 

Mr. Fasanya also gives Kudos to the Federal Government for availing loans to farmers in April as many benefited from the opportunity at a single digit interest rate.

 

"In April, Federal Government gave out loans with single digit interest rate with 3years repayment, if we can have that in all our micro-finance banks, it will help farmers as well as the country because we will have surplus food." Fasanya explained.

 

He also enjoined other sector of government to emulate the Federal government policy to make life easy for farmers and boast food security in the country.

 

While reacting to the concern raised by farmers and other livestock practitioners, the Oyo State Chairman House Committee on Agriculture, Hon. Peter Ojedokun has assured farmers that the price of maize and other inflated ingredients will soon be a story of the past.

 

Hon. Ojedokun affirmed that the current administration of Engr. Seyi Makinde is keen to make life easy for farmers and the State in general.

 

"We are doing everything to ensure our farmers are exposed to a lot of opportunities as well to grow their businesses and help boost the economy of the state." Hon. Ojedokun concluded.
