Stakeholders Commend Outgoing IFAD Nigeria Director for Support to Farmers

The Nigerian Government, United Nations agencies, agriculture stakeholders and smallholder farmers have commended the outgoing IFAD Country Director in Nigeria, Dede Ekoue, for her contributions to agricultural development and rural livelihoods.

Ekoue is leaving Nigeria after nearly four years to take up a new assignment in Rwanda.

Stakeholders gave the commendation at a farewell ceremony held at the IFAD Country Office in Abuja on September 2, 2026.

Representing the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Marcus Olaniyi Ogunbiyi, described Ekoue as a committed development partner who worked closely with government and followed up on key agricultural programmes.

The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Malik Fall, said her work supported women farmers, youths and other vulnerable groups while helping to strengthen IFAD’s partnerships in the country.

National Project Coordinator of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones programme, Dr Kabir Yusuf, also praised Ekoue for her leadership, dedication and support for smallholder families.

Representing rural women and smallholder farmers, Ejim Lovelyn said Ekoue’s regular visits to rural communities helped farmers participate directly in development programmes.

In her remarks, Ekoue thanked the Federal Government, farmers, development partners and IFAD staff for their cooperation. She called for increased investment in farmers, technology, digital solutions and private-sector partnerships to build on the gains recorded during her tenure.
