Former Senate Leader Victor Ndoma-Egba has called for deeper technology-based cooperation between Nigeria and Taiwan to improve agriculture, food security and employment.
Ndoma-Egba made the call at Taiwan Smart Agriweek 2026 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Centre.
He said Taiwan’s progress in agricultural technology could provide useful lessons for Nigeria and other African countries.
According to him, Nigeria can combine its agricultural resources and young population with technology, investment, research, infrastructure and skills to improve productivity.
Ndoma-Egba said cooperation should move beyond the traditional buying and selling of goods to include technology transfer, joint ventures, smart agriculture, aquaculture, food processing, renewable energy, digital farming and agricultural finance.
He also called for technologies developed in Taiwan to be adapted to local conditions, rather than simply imported.
The former Senate leader stressed the role of universities in supporting agricultural innovation through joint research, skills development, technology incubation and commercialisation.
He also invited Taiwanese companies, financial institutions and research organisations to consider Nigeria as a long-term investment and innovation partner.
The Nigerian delegation to the event included representatives of HyCuTIPI, the Federal University Oye-Ekiti and the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho.
Ndoma-Egba said stronger cooperation between Nigeria and Taiwan could help reduce post-harvest losses, improve farmers’ incomes, expand processing and create jobs.
