The 24-Hour Economy Secretariat and the Accelerated Export Development Authority say the funding will cover key areas of the poultry value chain.

The Secretariat’s Funding Team Lead, Arnold Parker, announced the financing during stakeholder discussions on the National Transformation Poultry Programme in Accra.

He said Absa Bank Ghana, Fidelity Bank and Ecobank Ghana are providing the funds.

The financing will support feed production, day-old chick supply, equipment, poultry processing, storage and veterinary services.

Parker said the first phase will involve about 300 million Ghana cedis, with additional funding expected after the initial phase is implemented.

He said new loan products will also be developed to match poultry production cycles and reduce repayment pressure on farmers.

Ghana’s poultry sector currently produces only a small share of domestic demand. Government figures show that the country consumed about 324,047 metric tonnes of poultry in 2022, while local production stood at 15,000 tonnes.

The Secretariat also plans to work with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research to improve productivity and promote innovation in the sector.
