FAO, Ministry Deliver 3.3 Million Vaccine Doses to Protect West Bank Livestock

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, FAO, and the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture have delivered more than 3.3 million vaccine doses to protect livestock owned by vulnerable herding families in the West Bank.

The vaccines, provided over the past two years with funding from Italy, Norway and other partners, have been used against peste des petits ruminants, sheep pox, foot-and-mouth disease and brucellosis.

The Ministry has also acquired about 50,000 additional doses for an emergency vaccination campaign against the SAT1 strain of foot-and-mouth disease.

FAO says livestock diseases have become a major cause of income loss among agricultural households. Preliminary findings from its 2026 survey show that reports of animal disease as a major production constraint increased by 20 percent compared with 2025.

The support also includes disease surveillance, laboratory equipment, testing facilities and biosecurity tools for veterinary workers.

FAO says the programme supports Palestine’s One Health Strategy by strengthening cooperation between animal, public and environmental health authorities.
