The Edo State Government is seeking investment from the United Arab Emirates in agriculture, livestock production and agro-processing as part of efforts to expand the state’s economy.
The move followed a meeting between state officials and the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al Shamsi, at the UAE Embassy in Abuja. The delegation, led by Commissioner for Livestock Development, Ohimai Ehijimetor, discussed possible areas of cooperation and investment in Edo’s agricultural sector.
Ehijimetor said the state has opportunities in oil palm, cocoa, pineapple, maize and cassava, as well as cattle, poultry, goat and fish production. He said the government is looking for investors who can provide capital, technology and expertise to support large-scale production and processing.
The delegation also invited UAE investors and business groups to the Edo International Agricultural and Livestock Investment Summit scheduled for December in Abuja. The commissioner said the summit will bring together investors, agribusiness companies, development institutions and policymakers to explore opportunities across the state’s agricultural value chains.
Ambassador Al Shamsi welcomed the initiative and pledged the embassy’s support for the summit. He also indicated its readiness to help mobilise UAE-based investors and business groups to participate in the event.
