Cameroon Sets Aside $22.1 Million to Boost Milk and Fish Production

Cameroon has allocated 22.1 million US dollars, equivalent to 12.5 billion CFA francs, in 2026 to support dairy and fisheries production and reduce dependence on imported food.

The funding is part of the Integrated Agropastoral and Fisheries Import-Substitution Plan, known as PIISAH. The sector coordination unit says 17.1 million dollars, or 9.6 billion CFA francs, of the 2026 allocation has already been committed.

An additional 11.6 million dollars has also been secured through an amendment to the government’s agreement with BC-PME. The money is expected to improve access to credit for producers and other businesses in the dairy and fish value chains.

However, domestic production remains limited. Figures presented by PIISAH sector coordinator Souaibou Djimoni show that milk and fish production grew by only about one to two percent between 2024 and 2025.

The ministry says its priorities for 2026 include faster loan disbursement, better feasibility studies, improved production data and closer monitoring of projects.

Six government agencies have also received performance contracts worth nearly 15.9 million dollars, with targets linked to measurable results.

Reported achievements include vaccination of 14,000 dairy animals, purchase of milking and silage equipment, construction of fish markets, and acquisition of 18 fish-feed production units.
