FG Distributes Livestock, Production Support to Women and Youths in Jigawa

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has distributed 100 bullocks, heifers and livestock production support items to 100 beneficiaries in Jigawa State. The beneficiaries, made up of 52 women and 48 youths from the North-West, North-East and North-Central zones, received the items under a Federal Government programme aimed at boosting livestock production, improving food security and creating jobs.

The distribution took place at Shuwarin Cattle Market in Dutse and was carried out in partnership with Meteorite Logistics Limited. Representing the Minister of Livestock Development, the Director of Livestock Extension and Business Development said the programme is part of the Federal Government's efforts to strengthen the livestock sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to the Ministry, providing quality breeding animals and production inputs will help beneficiaries increase livestock production, raise household income and build sustainable businesses. Beneficiaries were also advised to properly manage the animals, adopt good husbandry practices and expand their herds to maximise the benefits of the support.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Dr. Maryam Rabiu Miko thanked the Federal Government for the intervention, describing it as timely and saying it would help her establish a livestock business and improve her family's income. Other beneficiaries and representatives of livestock farmers also commended the initiative, saying it would strengthen livestock production and support food security in Jigawa State.

The Ministry said officials were available throughout the programme to train beneficiaries on feeding, breeding and animal healthcare to ensure the long-term success of the intervention. It also reaffirmed its commitment to programmes that will modernise the livestock sector, create employment and improve food production across the country.
