Vice President Kashim Shettima has endorsed the large-scale premium alfalfa project being developed by Jigawa El-Meena Farms, saying it could help reduce the persistent conflict between farmers and herders in Nigeria.
Shettima made the statement while visiting the company's exhibition stand at the inaugural J-Invest Summit 2026 in Dutse, Jigawa State. The summit brought together government officials, investors, development partners and business leaders to explore investment opportunities in agriculture, manufacturing, renewable energy and small businesses.
The Vice President reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to creating a favourable investment environment and supporting private sector projects that promote food security, job creation and economic growth.
Speaking on the Jigawa El-Meena Farms project, Shettima said large-scale production of premium alfalfa could help address the farmers-herders crisis by providing quality animal feed for the livestock sector.
The project aims to establish an integrated premium alfalfa value chain to supply Nigeria's dairy and livestock industries while positioning Jigawa as a regional centre for forage production and exports. It also supports the state government's plan to attract investment, create jobs and boost agricultural development.
